It’s hard to believe I haven’t written a post here since last Fall, and now it’s Spring. But I write a lot of posts in other places so my fingers just get tired (and my brain too).
But one thing I never get tired of is Earth Day. As a matter of fact, I’ve made a vow this year to reduce, reuse, recycle, minimize, donate stuff I don’t need, and generally reduce my carbon footprint as much as possible. I might even go solar if I can get a new roof first.
Plastic Has Been My Nemesis
Plastic has been my first line of attack this year. As a matter of fact I wrote another post about it on this website. I’m so sick of seeing pictures of the ocean and it’s creatures being tangled in plastic stuff. And now they’re even saying that the fish are consuming microscopic beads of plastic from wastewater, and we get the same secondhand when we eat fish.
There is hope though. The Market Basket near me now has a stockpile of boxes near the checkout lanes if you want to use them instead of plastic. I’ve noticed other stores giving rewards for using reusable bags. I’m praying for the day when they ban plastic shopping bags altogether.
Going Natural Again
Another thing I’ve switched to this year is making my own toiletries and house cleaning products with natural soaps and essential oils, so I don’t have to buy any more plastic bottles. Whatever I make I store in glass. Aside from being more eco-friendly, it’s really a lot of fun!
I’ve changed the way I prepare and store food too. Now I just need to get myself out in nature more! I’ll be doing that tomorrow and Sunday for clean up events, and hopefully warmer weather will stick around in May.
Love the Planet
So, happy earth day to you, and I hope this won’t be the last time I post this year. I’d like to love the planet by seeing a lot more of it, and maybe I’ll bring you along for the ride!
