You’re kidding me, I missed the New Year?

It was 2 nights before Christmas when I fell down the front steps, sprained my foot and bruised my body. It was Christmas Eve when we heard the sad news that my husband’s father passed away. And then my husband flew away 2 days after Christmas to attend the funeral.

Where did I go and what did I do from then until now? New Year? What’s that?

Celebrating Serenity

Sometimes life passes quickly and slowly at the same time. Emotions are in high gear and actions are in low gear. The mind is frazzled, distracted and struggling to put things in order. If you’ve experienced pain or sad events around a holiday you might know what I mean.

I find solace in reading, cleaning and fixing. Escaping into a novel for a few hours at a time. Then doing something useful or productive. Emotions subside, wounds heal, time rights itself and hope returns.

Maybe I missed the dropping ball or the world’s greatest fireworks, but hey, there’s always another New Year. As a matter of fact, there’s one right around the corner – about 3 weeks away. The Chinese New Year: Saturday, January 28th, 2017.

And it’s my year! The Year of the Fire Rooster

Trustworthy, with a strong sense of timekeeping and responsibility at work (that’s me). Loyal, serious about keeping their word; impatient in life, always feeling that they need to get things done. That’s why roosters are hardworking and resourceful. They also tend to be courageous and talented (this is not my evaluation, it’s from a book on Chinese astrology).

Unfortunately, the year of one’s birth sign in Chinese astrology, is the most unlucky year in the 12-year cycle. In the year of your sign, fortune in all aspects of life will not be very good. So, Roosters should be careful in 2017. Oh well, better luck next year.

Rubies and Jade in the Setting Suncompass2

Apparently, there are some things a rooster can do to turn their luck around this year. One is wearing RED, which I do all the time. Another is wearing Jade accessories. Fortunately I inherited some Jade jewelry from my grandmother. And one last thing, is to always face West (270 °), which could be a bit challenging. I’ll have to buy a compass.

In the meantime, let’s not worry about the year to come. We’ll just cook some fun veggies and enjoy (click the link below). Make the best of life, no matter what happens.

If you were born in the year of the Fire Rooster you would be turning one of these ages this year:  12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108.
